This week in my newsletter I wrote about writers (including me) experiencing rejection. So today I feel justified in celebrating my good news – a longlisting in the Raymond Carver Short Story Prize. Any association with that name is alright by me! He is simply one of my all time favourite short story writers so I’m delighted to have made it that far.

  1. Hi Avril
I meant to get in touch. I read and really enjoyed your short story collection. The only criticism? I wanted to know more about the characters and stay with them longer!
Very well done on the Carve long-list. I entered and didn’t make the cut! Like you said: one has to get used to disappointments. Best wishes
PS Hope to see you in Manchester again this year!

    1. Hi Adrian – great to hear from you and thanks for your comment on the collection. Yes, we do have to get used to disappointments, nice to have some encouragement though on the way. I don’t think I’ll enter Manchester – I’ve been busy with other things. Love to see you win though!
