Still Pinching Myself

Today Costa made public the names of the six finalists in their inaugural Costa Short Story Award and believe it or not I am one of the six!  I am still pinching myself, despite knowing I was a finalist as far back as November.

I know a story can be good and I always felt my story Mille and Bird was special, to me at least, but I know also that it takes a lot of luck along the way to get this far – for which I’m very grateful.

I’m delighted to be in such good company, and would like to thank the initial readers and the lovely judges for putting me here. I already feel like a winner, especially as I now have an invitation to the Presentation Ceremony next Tuesday 29th January (where winner and runners up are announced along with the big event –Costa Book of the Year ) sitting on my desk – London, Quaglino’s and a champagne reception – now that just can’t be bad! Pinch, pinch….

    1. Thank you Wendy – it sbeen a great morning finally having the list published – now time to get on with some writing I think X

  1. Thoroughly deserved. There are those authors we can take apart and see how and why their writing works. I’ve always felt with your writing, that, there is that elusive x, the sprinkle of star dust that refuses definition but certainly shines.

    1. Thank you Warren and Faith – I’m delighted today and it’s so good to have your support

      A x

  2. Wonderful news Avril. And truly deserved. So very proud of you. Fingers crossed this is another stepping stone towards not only greater recognition of your beautiful writing, but also an opportunity for more readers to find you. Hurrah! Have a fabulous night out. I shall raise a glass from the snug comfort of my living room. I feel this calls for a larger hurrah – HURRAH!

    1. Thanks for your kind words Lisette – I have to admit I raised more than one glass last night. Looking forward to next Tuesday very much.

  3. So proud of your achievements to date and sure there’ll be many more to come!
Have a wonderful evening on 29th (fingers crossed) and here’s to the next novel.
    Can’t wait…

    Love G
