The Orchid House Goes Live – What Would Alan Titchmarsh Think?

The Orchid House is up on Kindle and doesn’t look half bad – so huge sighs of relief for me! If you want to download it from the Amazon Kindle Store UK or read a sample then click on the cover image here on the left. If you don’t have a Kindle click on the download a free Kindle app on the left and you will be able to read it on your PC.

I have dedicated my book – to gardeners everywhere, especially Gillian W. Gillian is the world’s best copy editor and gardener too – she has just won Bishop Auckland’s Gardens in Bloom competition for her beautiful gardens.

Gillian suggested I send a copy (it would have to be virtual of course) of The Orchid House to Alan Titchmarsh – I think she quite likes him  – I do too – he always seems so laid back and cheerful and after all he’s a gardener – but I wasn’t sure. Does he have a Kindle? What might he think if he did read it?

I’ve been wondering quite a bit what people, not just Alan Titchmarsh, might think. You always do when you publish a book – after all it’s out there now to be praised or shot down. I especially wonder as it has a fair smattering of sex – it is, among other things, about sexual relationships – how they might imprison you, how they might set you free. But it is also about gardens and flowers – great Cornish gardens – and the seasons; the way a garden changes through winter, spring, summer and autumn and is re-born every year and I think Alan Titchmarsh would approve of that.

So you might want to let me know what you think, and should you read The Orchid House and enjoy it, please don’t be shy about leaving a review on Amazon this really does help promote the book to other readers.

Finally I wouldn’t have been on this journey without my comrade in arms Wendy Robertson who is about to publish Paulie’s Web – a great book about women in prison – thanks for everything Wendy!

  1. Paulie’s Web is ‘up’ now. The journey is just beginning. I think A Titmarsh might like The Orchid House. Of course he writes novels to so he should be sympatico…

  2. Avril,

I have purchased The Orchid House and am enjoying it very much. I love the dreamy and poetic tone and descriptions. I have just gotten to Roma’s meeting with Madeline.

I clicked on the book on your website but amazon.uk could not sell it to me in the US. I typed Amazon.com into my browser and got their site here, where I was able to buy the book for $3.99 and download a Kindle for my PC free of charge. It took about 10 minutes to do the whole transaction. You might be amused to know the three free books Amazon preloaded into the Kindle were Pride and Prejudice, Treasure Island and Aesop’s Fables along with my copy of The Orchid House :-)

Thanks so much for the notice of publication. The Kindle is great even though I have to sit at my computer to read. I love the ability to highlight words and bring up definitions instantly.

I will write again when I finish The Orchid House. I love the title, by the way.

  3. Congratulations Avril – I will be buying it (and Wendy’s) but probably won’t be able to read until after the 26th of Sept – I’m going back to the UK and have quite a few deadlines to meet plus my final Italian exams and oral presentation – currently can’t remember a word!

Hi Ann – thanks so much. I need to get a US link on my sidebar but I’m glad you managed to buy and that you’re enjoying it – its just great to get good feedback and to be in such esteemed company – Jane Austen no less!

Wendy – yes the journey is just beginning and I’m definitely enjoying the ride despite some of the struggles – have learned so much and raring to Kindle the next one now!
