Aint No Sunshine…Still Bill Withers

Ain’t No Sunsine When She’s Gone, written by Bill Withers is up there with my all-time favourite songs. It’s one of those songs that we all have, that take us somehwere special: to a time, a place, a person…

Last night I watched Still Bill, The Bill Wither’s Story BBC4 – you can watch again here Born in the coal mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia only a geneartion away from slavery, his childhood was marred by a stammer and the death of his father when he was twelve. Despite all the odds or perhaps because of them he became one of the great songwriters of the seventies. Now into the seventies himself he has much to say about  what’s important in life and what’s not – fame, for one. He is disarmingly wise and emotional, not afraid of tears and still making great music.

Here is the link to Bill playing Aint No Sunshine PLEASE DONT GO AWAY WITHOUT TREATING YOURSELF to 2 mins of The BEST  – You get to skip the ad at the beginning pretty quickly.

(wanted to put the video up for you but it wasn’t having it!)

Would love to hear about the songs that take you to that special time, place etc…
